The group holiday houses in Chiclana at Los Refugios del Alce are five houses rented as a whole, sleeping 6 to 10 people each, with a private heated pool, a fireplace and a barbecue. Larger groups can book several houses at once, so each family has its own. We are in Cortijo del Sotillo, a 10-minute drive from La Barrosa beach.
Travelling as a group usually means a compromise: a villa where people sleep squeezed in, or a hotel where everyone eats separately. Here the group spreads out the way it actually lives, with grandparents near a bathroom, younger cousins close to their parents and one long table for the evening.

Which house suits your group size
| House | Layout | Sleeps |
|---|---|---|
| Rincón del Chico | 4 bedrooms, sofa bed and 2 bathrooms | Up to 10 |
| Casa Alce | 3 bedrooms, sofa bed and 1 bathroom | Up to 8 |
| Casa Ferro | Double room, attic, sofa bed and 1 bathroom | Up to 6 |
| Casa Dafer | Double room, twin room and sofa bed | Up to 6 |
| Casa Joal | Double room, twin room and sofa bed | Up to 6 |
Two families with children often fit well in Rincón del Chico: one review describes two families with four children in the four-bedroom house. Larger groups usually combine houses. One Google review describes 18 adults and 5 children sharing three.
Why book several group holiday houses for a large group
- Each house is rented whole. You never share it with other guests.
- Each house has its own heated pool, private and on its own plot, available all year.
- Each house has a fireplace and a barbecue, so you can dine together in one house and keep the next evening free.
- There is private parking, which helps when you arrive in three cars.
If staying close together matters, ask us which available houses are nearest to each other on your dates.

Group houses in Chiclana with children
There is an enclosed playground for guests only, and each pool is for the exclusive use of the people staying in that house. The pool also has a cover. Guests with small children often mention the cot, the washer and dryer, and the dishwasher. Let us know if you need a cot when you book.
What is and is not allowed
To be clear from the start: the houses are not rented for parties or events, or for activities involving loud music or other disturbance, at any time of day. This is a condition of the rental contract. They suit family gatherings, a quiet birthday lunch or a week with friends.

What to do near Chiclana as a group
- La Barrosa beach, a 10-minute drive: almost 8 kilometres of sand.
- Novo Sancti Petri: a seafront walk, restaurants and the view of Sancti Petri castle.
- Conil de la Frontera, 15 to 20 minutes: a good half-day trip.
- Cádiz, about 30 to 35 minutes: worth a full day. See the Chiclana tourism website for more ideas.

How to split a large group between the houses
The easiest sum starts with the largest house. Rincón del Chico sleeps up to 10, Casa Alce up to 8, and Casa Ferro, Casa Dafer and Casa Joal up to 6 each. A group of 14 fits in Alce and Ferro. A group of 18 fits in Rincón del Chico and Alce. For 24 people you need three houses: Rincón del Chico, Alce and one of the houses for 6.
Splitting by family usually works better than splitting by beds. Each family has its own kitchen and its own timetable, and the children can go to bed early without anyone lowering their voice over the grown-ups’ dinner. You can then gather in whichever house has the longest table or the barbecue you like best.
Shopping and meals
There is a Mercadona and a Día less than five minutes away, so the first shop can be done on the day you arrive. Add charcoal to the list, as it is the only fuel allowed in the barbecue. In winter, the first use of firewood for the fireplace is included.
Water, electricity, sheets, towels and a blanket are included too, so you only need to pack clothes and swimwear. If you are coming in several cars, there is private parking.
A week in Chiclana as a group
For a week, it usually works well to alternate pool days with short outings. La Barrosa is a 10-minute drive, so younger children can come back to the house for lunch. Conil de la Frontera is 15 to 20 minutes away and Vejer about 30. Cádiz is 30 to 35 minutes along the A-48 and deserves a full day. Jerez is about 35 minutes, and Zahara de los Atunes about 45 if you leave early and want a long day on the beach.
Groups often ask us whether everyone has to arrive at the same time. Check-in opens at 5 pm for every house, so the first car can get the barbecue ready while the others are on the road. If your group has particular needs, tell us when you write and we will look at which houses fit your dates.
